What Does Purple Bruise Under Toenail Indicate?

I have a purple mark under my big toenail that looks like a bruise, but does not hurt at al. It showed up in March. It does not grow out with the nail, but gets bigger. It spreads a little near the bottom of the nail. I guess it could be a fungus, but not sure. Any advice as to what I should do?

It could be of great help if you can send a photo of the affected toenail to me. It might be a bruise, but it does not sound good if it is growing out. So, better consult with a dermatologist to rule out nail melanoma.
