What Does Pus Cells: 5-8/hpf And RBC: 0-1/hpf Mean In Urinalysis?
Hi please help me evaluate my urinalysis. I got the following results: Color: lt. yellow, transparency: hazy, reaction: 7.0, specific gravity: 1.010, albumin & sugar: negative, pus cells: 5-8/hpf, red blood cells: 0-1/hpf, epithelial cells: moderate Thank you so much.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The interpretation of urine report is as follows: The physical features of the urine - yellow color, transparent appearance, pH of 7, specific gravity 1.010 are within normal range. Absence of albumin and sugar in urine are also normal findings. Presence of 5-8 pus cells/hpf suggests presence of infection. Presence of 0-1 red blood cell is not very significant. Since, presence of pus cells suggests infection, thus a urine culture can be done to isolate the causative micro-organism causing infection. The culture can be followed by drug sensitivity for selecting the most appropriate antibiotic.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
