What Does Pus Discharge From The Ears Of A Child Indicate
My 3 year old daughter stuck a q-tip to far in her ear yesterday, this is the second time she has done this, the first being a few months ago, she had a little blood that was in her ear and last time it happened it was the same, since the last time I took her to the doctor it was a tiny hole I figured it may be the same, but today I am cleaning her ear and there is puss in there. should I take her to the docot or is this normal?
As per your complain pus discharge from ear is a sign of ear infection and if she already has a history of hole in ear, it can be worsened due to infection. As she has a perforated eardrum it can further worsen and there can even be loss of hearing. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like otoscopy, x-ray etc can help in diagnosis.
She can be advised antibiotic and analgesic ear drops along with oral antibiotics and painkillers and at times manual drainage of ears along with placement of pressure equalization tubes and correction of the perforated eardrum by tympanoplasty procedure can help.
Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks and regards, Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
