What Does "black Area Under The Bottom Of Teeth" On An X-ray Indicate?
I recently took my 12 year old daughter for an xray. It was done in preperation for braces. . The xray showed black area under her bottom teeth.. near the chin.. no other symptoms or pain or evidence in her mouth. What could this be? Should I be concerened? Is it cancer? She goes back to see Othopedic surgeon tomorrow... thank you
As per your complain black area or radiolucency under the bottom teeth that is lower front teeth can be due to causes like any opening for nerve and blood vessel if it is considerably small while it can also be due to causes like any cyst formation of bone loss due to any bony disorder..
It needs to be taken care of and in place of consulting an Orthopedic surgeon my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician or an Orthodontist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination, taking x rays with changed angulations can help in diagnosis and can be treated accordingly..
Any orthodontic treatment should be commenced once the cause of the radiolucency is ruled out and treated accordingly..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
