What Does "interstitial Scarring Of Lungs" Indicate?
Hi , I am a 54 yr old female, smoked 5 cigs a day, 10 on weekends for 30 yrs. CXR showed interstitial scarring of lungs. I run 1 hr a day with out any problems. Should I be concerned? See a pulmonologist? It also said mild estasia at the thoracic aorta. They did not suggest I get any further testing. Thank you.
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your concern. Interstitium is the part of lung which connect airway and blood vessels. And it's scarring is seen commonly in smokers. This can be the early sign of interstitial lung disease (ILD). So better to quit smoking as soon as possible. Consult pulmonologist and get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test). This will tell you about severity of the disease and help you in deciding future treatment plan. So quit smoking, consult pulmonologist and discuss all these. Hope I have solved your query. Wish you good health. Thanks.
