What Does "mild Partial Fatty Atrophy" In A CT Scan Mean?

I have had several cat scans of my abdomen. 1st cat scan said I have mild partial fatty atrophy involving the pancreatic head.
2nd cat scan two years later said I have mild heterogeneity of the pancreatic head. what do these scans mean. Do they mean the same thing.

Welcome to health care magic.

1.Atrophy means reduction in the size of the head of pancreas - which is seen after any post treated infection, age related , and parenchymal abnormalities.
2.Heterogeneous pancreatic head is description given to the pancreatic parenchyma - saying that its not same echoes as rest of the parenchyma.
3.This suggest there is reduction in size and changes in the parenchymal status two different entities.
4.In this case contrast study would have been beneficial to see the enhancement features.
5.What you have to see now is the amylase and lipase levels - if they are normal limits - you need to get a followup ultrasound or CT as clinically indicated.

Good luck.
Hope i have answered your query,
any thing to ask ? do not hesitate to ask.
