What Does "xtensive Mediastinal And Hilar Adenopathy" In A CT Scan Mean?

just had a CT of the chest with contrast. Findings were extensive mediastinal and hilar adenopathy. Lymph nodes in the rt. peribronchial area measuring 4 cm in diameter. multiple scattered pulmonary nodules noted in lungs measuring up to 6 mm. Homogenous interstitial disease scattered throughout the lungs . Axillary lymph nodes measuring up to 18mm in diameter. Is this a high chance of lung cancer you think?

Welcome to health care magic.

1.The report suggest there are multiple enlarged lymph nodes noted in mediastinal and axillary region.
2.There are multiple features which will suggest weather malignant or benign aetiology, like margins, enhancement. Measurement wise the possibilities of malignancy are there but it is not enough to consider.
3.As lung also shows infective features with alveolar fullness - a followup CT after the treatment could be helpful for comparison.
4.Lymph nodal enlargement can be seen in presence of any infection / inflammation, it can be localised or systemic. And also lymph nodal pathology itself as well.
5.In this case an FNAC - fine needle aspiration cytology will help to evaluate the nature of cells involved. Along with followup CT, and enhancement features as suggested.

Good luck.
