What Does Red Bump On Throat Indicate?

Hello, im 16 years old; male, I just recently noticed a red bump on the top corner of the back of my throat, there's only 1 bump, and it's a reasonable size. I know this usually means it's the bodys' reaction to fighting off viral infection. But I want to make sure, what should I do?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query red bump on throat are pointing towards a condition known as strep throat/granular pharyngitis/ tonsillitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with warm saline gargles and betadine gargles 3-4 times a day. You should take ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and rule out condition like strep throat and viral infection . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (penicillin or amoxicillin ) or anti viral drug depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants and anti inflammatory. You should maintain proper hygiene. Avoid hot, sharp , spicy food substances , do warm saline rinses and carbonated beverages.
