What Does Rubella IgG Positive From Torch Test Suggest?

my wife had her last cycle on 14th april 2011. but she has a history of belayed cycle by 10 to 20 days in her last 6months. on 22nd of may 2011 she got fever and we also verified for the possibility of the pregnency and it found positive. As she is pregnant doctor suggested to undergo TORCH test (both IgM and IgG) as she has syptom of fever.TORCH test was doen after her fever got normal and in the test the Rubella IgG is +ve with 3.2 (activity index) however all other are negative including Rubella IgM. Only Rubella IgG is positive. we dont know her details of MMR vaccination. so doctor told it is not able to guess whether it is the indication of immunity or Rubella infection.

is there any possibility of still born baby or baby with CRS if we do not abort the baby. doctor say do nt the risk. please suggest us the complications if we carry the pregnancy.

please treat this as urgent

Hi,
I understand your concern.
Two antibodies are tested to know rubella infection status in a patient.
IgM antibody +ve indicates active rubella infection when the tset was done.Your wife did not have active rubella infection that time.
IgG antibody suggests body resistance against RUBELLA ( IMMUNITY ) at the time of examination.Your wife had it +ve with 3.5 IU/ ml of blood.
* IgG > 10 IU/ ml is immune state against Rubella ( .. the patient can not get the infection ) . As your wife's not sufficiently immune agaist rubella & she can get the infection.
* IN such a case, you should contact your doctor & get her immunized before she conceives / If she is already pregnant she must avoid exposure to the infection ..by avoiding to visit a person suffering from rubella.
Thanks.
