What Does Salty Taste In The Mouth Indicate?

Salty taste in mouth. It feels like I still have food in my mouth even after brushing. I have a habit of putting my tougue around my mouth searching for food. I make swallowing noises. This can be irritating to people around me. I have discussed this with my dentist who suggested dry mouth. Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. Salty taste in your mouth seems to be due to dehydration, post-nasal drip, dry mouth, Sjogren´s syndrome and acidic reflux. You should drink plenty of fluids. Chew on sugar free candies to stimulate salivary flow. I would suggest you to consult general practitioner/ oral physician once for proper diagnosis. Doctor may order certain tests like complete blood profile , sialogram and may prescribe drugs like pilocarpine to increase saliva production. Take plenty of fluids in diet. Avoid intake of sharp food substances and chew on sugar free candies.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
