What Does Severe Pain And Swelling In The Left Ankle Indicate?

I am having severe pain in my ankles with swelling in the left ankle. I have had xrays of both ankles and show no sign of compound fractures. I am not aware of any accidents that I would have injured myself. My Doctor has referred me to a podiatrist, however I am wondering if something else is causing the pain. I do have arthritis and wonder if that could be the problem. Any information would be appreciated.

Hello there . I have read through your question and would like to tell you that swelling over the ankles can be a sign of Arthritis. I would advise you to get an X Ray knee done as well. Also get a RA Factor and anti CCP done to rule out Rheumatoid Arthritis as well. Meanwhile you can have anti inflammatory to reduce pain and inflammation. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
