What Does Severe Pain In The Left Knee And Groin Area Indicate?

I had debilitating left knee pain one day and right groin pain the next. A couple of days later, right knee was painful. Once in a while I have a good day. I had a job at which I was on my feet for 4 to 5 hours at a time and when returned home at night I had achy legs. My local doctor diagnosed osteoarthritis and prescribed dulexotine which has helped some. I now have leg spasms that feels like nerves in legs are all activated (It s hard to explain - for lack of better description maybe feels like when you stretch only a little more intense). Today both knees are hurting when I walk. I am a 65 year old overweight female. 5 6 at 195 pounds. I have always been very active. Working hard in yard, taking stairs instead of elevator, chasing grandkids around as they ride battery operated vehicles. Please help me and thank you advance for your time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please do modify your lifestyle like this -

1)Do exercise. Exercise can increase your endurance and strengthen the muscles around your joint, making your joint more stable. Try walking, biking or swimming.

2)Try to lose weight. Being overweight or obese increases the stress on your weight-bearing joints, such as your knees and your hips. Even a small amount of weight loss can relieve some pressure and reduce your pain.

3)Try to use heat and cold to manage pain. Both heat and cold can relieve pain in your joint. Heat also relieves stiffness, and cold can relieve muscle spasms and pain.

4)Apply over-the-counter pain creams. Creams and gels available at drugstores may provide temporary relief from osteoarthritis pain.

5)Try to use assistive devices. Assistive devices can make it easier to go about your day without stressing your painful joint. A cane may take weight off your knee or hip as you walk. Carry the cane in the hand opposite the leg that hurts.

Hope that helps
