What Does Severe Pain In The Lower Back On The Left Side Indicate?

I have had mild to severe lower back pain on the left side in the sacrum area accompanied by frequent popping in that area as well as occasional popping along my spine. My MRI only showed mild to moderate arthritis in my spine. Although I had several occasions during the holidays when I lifted heavy objects, I cannot point to one incident which caused the problem immediately. The physical therapists have stated that I have a knot within the muscle in the sacrum area but nothing showed up in a lower back X-ray or MRI. I have been on pain meds, muscle relaxers, acupuncture and heat in addition to physical therapy. The issue is not getting any better.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:

1) Do take all medications as per your treating Doctor's advice and do physiotherapy regularly. Discuss [Cortisone] injections.

2) Try to lose weight. Even a small amount of weight loss can relieve some pressure and reduce your pain. Talk to your doctor about healthy ways to lose weight.

3) Discuss with your Doctor about assistive devices which will be suitable for you.

4) If every conservative treatment tried without any result then discuss surgical treatments.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
