What Does Severe Pain In The Shoulder Blades Suggest?

My son in law is experiencing chest pain - but deep at the back - like in between shoulder blades. I was just checking if this could be a possible sign. Don t really see anything saying so. Told him if it persists for another hour to go to the medical centre. What do y think??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Chest pain can be related to any structure in the chest from the skin inwards (skin, muscles, bones, lungs, heart, esophagus).

If he has a history of heart disease or is at risk (smoking, increased weight, hypertension, high cholesterol or diabetes) , then he should be assessed as soon as possible.
If there are associated warning symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, diaphoresis then he should be seen as soon as possible.

If neither of this is the case, then he can consider waiting as suggested.

I hope this helps
