What Does Shadow In The Heart Of Fetus Ultrasound Indicate?

Hello. My girlfriend is 20 weeks pregnant and recently had a ultrasound. At our next doctors app, she told us that there is a shadow in the heart, and that we needed to see a specialist. We were not given any more information than that. Should we be worried? Thanks!

Thanks for your question.
I think at present you don't have any reason to be worried. Just follow your doctor. If she is not seeing a Consultant Obstetrician, please plan a visit. Your doctor will most likely advise a fetal echocardiography at 24 weeks gestation to find out what this shadow exactly is. There may or may not be anything serious, but, don't get tensed unless an abnormality is detected by echo.
