What Does Sharp Pain In The Big Toe Indicate?

ever so often I have a very sharp pain that runs down my foot into my big toe. The pain last only seconds but usually repeats itself three or four times. It will then go away and it might be days before I have it again. I ve had a few bouts of gout but this doesn t resemble gout at all.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Presence of big toe pain is one of the common symptom of gout and this is possible that your pain arises from gout.

The second possibility is radiculopathy which can arise from spinal cord lesions among others. The most common cause in young individuals is herniated disc at lumbar region.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
