Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a very sharp, well-defined pain in my lower back that is persistent (hasn t gone away for two days), pain in both hips, discomfort in the left side of my abdomen, and diarrhea alternating with constipation. I don t have a fever but I am also unusually fatigued. I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist next week. Based on these symptoms, is it risky to wait one week for that appointment or should I go to an urgent care or ER?

What Does Sharp Pain In The Lower Back Indicate?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. No, it s not very urgent for you to go to a doctor because you just have pains and diarrhea. There is no need for an emergency. But the condition you are describing needs detail evaluation along with ultrasound abdomen and colonoscopy. If you have been worked up in these contexts then we will be able to find what is causing all the symptoms and can treat you accordingly. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Archana
