What Does Sharp Pain In The Shoulder Indicate?

I am having sharp, stabbing pain in my shoulder (esp. my arm pit) that also sometimes appears in my upper arm, then goes to my lower arm (but, never both at the same time)... I m also having numbness on just my skin of the top of my lower arm (above the wrist/to the elbow). Also, my first 3 fingers are kinda numb, with a pins and needles feeling when I touch them. I ve seen a doctor, but he says it s a hairline fx. and I know this is wrong. Please, I just need some thoughts on this...

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms you mention seem very likely to be due to a nerve pinch with pain and numbness. The nerve can be pinched while it goes out of the spine and might be caused from a muscular strain, osteophytes (spur bone growths at the sides of the vertebra) in the neck vertebra or a problem of the disc in between vertebra. Rarely other conditions are the cause.
You will need the doctor to examine you and rule out neurological symptoms in other areas of your body and if this is the only area you are having neurological signs than a neck x-ray might be helpful to examine the vertebra and determine the possible cause of the nerve pinch.
A Physiotherapist might help you further with exercises to relax muscles and help relieve the pressure on the nerve.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
