What Does Sharp Pain In The Upper Abdomen And Back Indicate?

Hi I have sharp pain in my upper middle abdomen. It is spreading pain yo my back. My stomach is gurgling and growling as well. Its been like this since last night and has gotten worse. I feel nauseous with it and have gotten sick. I took gaviscon as I thought it was indigestion and I took Panadol for my back this morning and it hasn t helped. Any ideas what it is and if I should go to a doctor today as I am going on holiday tomorrow?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. Its important that you see your doctor immediately.

The problems which you have described might be due to pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is the inflammation of pancreas (the part of body which produces insulin). As it is a dangerous disease so you must consult your doctor as early as possible. Your doctor will take detailed history and will examine you. On suspicion of pancreatitis from history and examination he might order few tests.

Hopefully your query is answered. If you have any more questions, I will be glad to answer those. Wish you good health.
