What Does Soreness In The Eyes Indicate?

My husband was on the drug and we refused after 6 days due to many side effects. One side effect was soreness of eyes (a grainy feeling). On day 7 (1st day off of drug), his eyesight was lost. He could see nothing but whit for approximately 45 minutes. Then it returned. Question: could this be due to drugs?
