What Does Soreness On The Tip Of The Tongue Indicate?

Was diagnosed with strep throat and walking pneumonia Nov. 18. Prescribed a Z pack (5 days). Doctor said lungs were clear on Nov. 28. Throughout illness, my the tip of my tongue is sore and irritated. Did not think about mentioning it to my doctor. Now it continues. What could be wrong and what could soothe it?

Hi.
Thanks for the query.

Soreness of the tongue tip can occur due to a number of causes like infection in mouth and throat, it can be a manifestation of systemic diseases and infections while can be due to burning with hot foods, localised trauma like with any sharp teeth, side effect of medications, nutritional deficiency etc.

Do not worry it will get better as the infection will subside and you will stop taking medications.

For now to reduce inflammation you can do warm saline gargles. Do cool water rinses and cool compresses. Avoid any spicy and irritant foods. You can take Vitamin B complex supplements. If there is pain you can apply oral gels like Mucopain gel or others containing Xylocaine or Chlorohexidine. If there is no improvement consult an Oral Physician and get a clinical examination done.

Hope this helps.

Regards .
