What Does Soreness On The Toes Indicate?

My mother had a stroke in 2008 which affected her left side, shoulder, arm, hand and foot. She can walk with a cane but cannot use her arm or hand. For about six months, she has been having soreness in the toes of the left side. She has been x-rayed and there are no broken bones of any sort. So, we want to know what can we do about the soreness in the last three toes. We have bought new shoes, and now seeing another podiatrist for a second opinion. Would you have any idea what may be causing the soreness?

Hello,

It is due to loss of sensorium on that side. In the normal individual, we can sense each and every sensation which prevents any injury and help us to keep our self-good. But in a stroke patient, they lose this ability. So they don't feel anything so recurrent microtrauma occurs which leads to sores. And very useful to use soft shoes and a podiatrist opinion should be taken.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
