What Does Spasms And Bloating In The Abdomen Indicate?

Hi , I went off of my birth control pills back in January and I went six months without a period and then I spotted for a couple of days and then stopped. The following week I started spotting again and it lasted a couple of days . About a month ago I noticed my stomach was very swelled and it s a little bit bigger now and I have been having muscle spasms in my stomach. I went to a gynecologist and he made an appointment for me to have an ultrasound done. I had the ultrasound done and the gynecologist told me that I have a cyst on one of my ovaries. He wants to remove the whole ovary my question is should I wait for a couple of months to see if the cyst shrinks or disappears or should I just go ahead and have the surgery to remove my ovary and is it dangerous to wait too long ?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The cyst can sometimes undergo hemorrhage resulting in severe pain and also it can twist and cause what is called torsion.
I am sure the gynecologist found something in the ultrasound of the cyst regarding the size and involvement that he suggested immediate surgery . You may have a second ultrasound.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
