MRI report: There is central spinal stenosis and left greater than right lateral recess narrowing at the L4=L4 related to a fairly broad-based disc herniation. Moderately severe left and moderate right L4 foraminal narrowing associated and findings suggest possible involvement of the left L5 nerve root in the lateral recess,
Will surgery help relieve the pain?
I am 53 years old and have had back problems for 2 years.
There is a disc between the the vertebral bodies which serves as shock-absorber effect for body weight bearing, when these discs age relatedly there will be loos of hydration ( water content ) and tents to degenerate herniates ( slips). Also seen in post traumatic cases.
In your case the the disc has slipped backwards and causing mass effect on the spinal chorus and nerve at the level of L5.
Treatment of choice in this case probably operative ( interventional all also can be tried its less invasive). Initially one will try with physiotherapy and in later stage finally if medical condition of the patient supports - operation / intervention can be done.
Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health. Anything to ask ? do not hesitate. Thank you.
