What Does Sudden Onset Of Chest Pain And Nausea Indicate?

My 22 year old daughter had an episode today while working out. She felt sharp pains I her chest. She stopped her work out and then felt acute shortness of breath. In the last 12 months she has had two episodes where she fainted not associated with activity just contemporaneous nausea. We have been told she was dehydrated, and perhaps had low iron. Now with this event we have a greater concern. She was just released from the ER as "everything normal." Any reason to be concerned about a potential heart irregularities. Our close family friend's passed away this past winter due to an undiagnosed defect, so extra cautious. Thanks

Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to:
1. Gastrointestinal cause- due to accumulation of gas and excess acid formation in stomach. Symptomatic relief can be obtained with intake of Proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole, which prevent acid formation in stomach (to be taken before meals)+ antacid gel (to be taken after meals).

2. Spasm of the chest muscles- management will involve application of muscle relaxant gel & intake of analgesic (like Diclofenac) + Pantoprazole preparation.

However, an ECG can be done to rule out any Cardiovascular cause for the symptoms.

So, kindly consult your Doctor and start treatment as advised.
There is no need to worry, she will be fine.
