What Does Sudden Pain In The Left Upper Leg Indicate?

About three weeks ago I had sudden sharp pain in the outside area of my left upper leg. About an hour later I noticed a large vein very close to the skin, it was about 1 3/4 inches long and about 1/4 inch wide and bulged. Since then I ve developed numbness along the outside upper leg from the large vein and my knee area. I have Type II Diabetes, controlled by diet. Is this something very critical?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Sudden pain with bulging of vein could be a sign of disturbances of underlying circulation with thrombosis or others.

In our clinic, I recommend the patient to get evaluated with Doppler ultrasound of the limb for perfusion evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
