What Does Swelling Around A Surgical Incision Site Indicate?
hi. my husband had open inguinal hernia surgery on 25 sep 2017. prior to that, he had robotic assisted prostatectomy on 11 jul 2017. everything seems fine except swelling on the hernia surgical site left side and his left scrotum also swelling (size of golf ball). he is a bit feverish since yesterday and took 2 Nurofen to subside his fever and today again 2 Nurofen caps. his bowel movement is regular too. but today, there seems to be a trace of blood in the water with the stool. he does not feel any pain since the hernia surgery. is this a cause of concern in case there is internal bleeding? should we contact his doctor regarding this? thanks for your response.
hi mam,yes it needs a consultation and examination of the site of swelling.because he is suffering from fever,it might be infection.the following are some of the other possibilities 1)varicocele 2)recurrent hernia 3)hydrocele 4)hematocele only with the help of inguinal examination in person,we can arrive at a diagnosis and can initiate timely intervention.its good to see a surgeon as early as possible.but do not panic and its not life threatening.hope i'm clear.any further doubts, please do write to us.i would attend with pleasure.thank you.take care.bye.
