What Does Swelling In The Cheeks And Neck Indicate?
I have had a swelling of my cheek and neck, for several months. My ENT says it is an enfected parotid gland. I have seen several doctors, including my PCP and specialists. The only one who gave me any treatment was my ENT. He prescribed an antibiotic, which didn t work. So far, nothing has worked. Any suggestions? I have an order from the ENT to see dr at Mayo clinic.
If there is swelling of the parotid gland and you are not having any pain, then it can be due to obstruction in the duct of the gland. Obstruction can occur due to the crystalline stone formation or can be sue to blocking of the duct opening with a foreign body.
If there is an obstruction in the duct of the gland, then antibiotics will not help. Rather you should consult an oral surgeon, and get evaluated and an x-ray or MRI scan can be done for confirmation.
If there is an obstruction in the duct of the gland, then it has to be removed either manually if it is superficial. If it is deep, then surgical removal has to be done under sialoscopic guidance.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
