What Does Swelling In The Knees Indicate?

It is above the knee swollen, knee seems stiff on side and at the top. It gave out 2 weeks ago and was in a lot of pain for 36 hours with swelling up to the thigh and to foot. Iced it and took ibuprofen. if I walk to much it feels as if the knee cap is falling off and just below the knee cap, the shin will hurt.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic!
I understand your concerns. I woild like a little bit more information, like did you hurt your knee (any trauma )or the pain and swelling start suddenly while resting or when you woke up in the morning. If you had any trauma you should go to the orthopedist, if it was suddenly may you should need to meet a rhematologist. In this time you can take non prescription drug like ibuprofen( as you took) 400 mg twice a day, or when you have pain. But the real solution you are going to have after you meet one of those doctor and after some examination.
I wish my answer was helpful to you!
Best Regards!
