What Does Swelling In The Left Leg Indicate?

I have a very swollen left leg and foot. This is gone on for about 5 days with a little discomfort in calf. Was busy all day running errands and notice the foot and leg wasn't as swollen. However when I worked at the computer it became very very swollen again. Can you give me an idea what this could be? I had Cardiac Catherization, Sep 6th and I am Pre Diabetic for which I do not take medicine. Thank You.

Thanks for contacting with your health concern

1. Since both conditions, cardiac catheterization and prediabetes can cause swelling in the foot [by causing water retention], but after going by your history/symptoms, you need urgent medical evaluation since it could be a blood clot [DVT- deep vein thrombosis] which has to be immediately excluded as there is swelling so seek immediate medical intervention [vascular surgeon opinion] or visit an ER.

PS. Ask for doppler study [since the clot could break free and travel up to the lungs to cause fatal embolism]
