What Does Swelling In The Legs Indicate?

I have a swelling on my leg which seems odd and getting larger over the last few days. It is now about the size of my cupped palm. It is located on my upper front thigh just below my pelvis. I had fallen skiing last week on the same side and really bruised the outside of my thigh. Not sure if this is related but thought it had to be. Now I m not sure and not sure if I should wait until my Doctor s appointment on Monday to check it out. It is not painful, but is tight and seems to have gotten bigger in a few days.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you had history of fall and blunt trauma, possibility of soft tissue injury (ligament, muscles) is more likely for your swelling. So better to consult orthopedic doctor and get done x ray of local area to rule out fracture. If fracture is not seen then you will mostly improve with immobilization, cast application and anti inflammatory drugs to reduce swelling. Don't worry, your swelling will definitely reduce after 1-2 weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
