Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Swelling In The Right Ankle And Foot Indicate?
My husband s right leg below his knee is swollen all the way down through his ankle and foot. He has pain in the calf of the leg. HE had a vascular Doppler which showed no blood clot. the Dr. says to have an internist check it for lymphedema or kidney problems. If he had kidney problems, are there other symptoms?
Based on the history you have shared, it is good that Doppler ultrasound was normal which rules out possibilities of arterial or venous blockage. Soft tissue Inflammation or cellulitis is still a possibility. Kidney disease doesn't present with unilateral swelling and history isn't correlated too. A local surgical or orthopedic review is needed to rule out any possibility of compartment syndrome etcetera. Baseline blood works up like complete blood counts and D dimers should be done. Meanwhile, he should avoid strenuous activities. For pain OTC analgesics like acetaminophen can be used.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
