What Does Swelling In The Throat Indicate?

My daughter is 23 and has been diagnosed with a sinus infection. She has been on amoxicillian for 48 hours. She is not better and her throat is just as bad or worse. Her throat is very swollen. She also had a flu shot and a Tdap booster 10 days ago. She tested negative at a walk in clinic for strep and mono. I am worried.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your daughter seems to have developed acute tonsillitis. Since she has already started with Amoxicillin, I would advise you to continue with it and complete the course. Along with that tell her to take betadine gargles as it will aid in controlling the infection better. She can also take an anti-inflammatory like paracetamol to alleviate the pain. If she does not recover in two-three days, I get her checked by an ENT specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman
