Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a heart transplant patient, I recently started having swelling and pain in my right foot on top, it was first thought to be cellulites which I took antibiotics, after taking them the swelling did not fully go away, I was given steroids pack. The swelling went away along with the pain. 1 week later, the pain the swelling is back. Could this be gout that s caused by my anti-rejection drugs prograf or rapamune?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Its nothing to do with your medications.I don't think it's Gout either because in gout great toe is most commonly affected not top of the foot.It could be due to overuse injury because of putting excessive stress on joint.steroids will give temporary relief but do not heal so please avoid them if possible.Rest your limb, put ice on it, elevate the limb when you sleep, use analgesics for pain relief either topical or oral.I hope I have answered your question if you have further queries please feel free to ask me.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
