What Does Swollen And Painful Gums After Tooth Removal Indicate?
Hello,
I had my wisdom teeth removed about 3 years ago. Back behind my right molar, where my wisdom tooth used to be, my gum is extremely swollen and painful. This is to the point where it hurts to close my mouth completely or open my jaw too wide. I am a person who bites my cheeks a lot. My diet hasn't changed, I rinse with Peroxide twice daily, and I brush my teeth twice daily as well. What could be the issue?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms if after 3 years of being healthy if your gum has started being swollen and painful then the possibility is that there is some left over root piece which must have accidentally left out in the socket at the time of extraction and it has become actively infected now causing pain and swelling.. Other causes of pain and swelling is foreign body inclusion, food impaction.
Cheek bite does not seems to be a cause..
Nothing to worry consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and if required the Physician can also take an x Ray to evaluate and treatment can be planned accordingly.. For remaining root piece or foreign body removal of same followed by antibiotics and painkillers will help.. For cheek bite habit you can get a Mouth Guard fabricated to prevent biting of cheek..
Hope this information helps..
