What Does Swollen, Tender Area On Head Behind The Middle Of Ear Mean?

i have an area on my head located behind the middle of my ear, it is tender and slightly swollen. It was tender yesterday but not swollen. It is very localized I can pull on the ear and the skin in that surrounding area doesn t hurt.. I have TMJ, and a long history of neck problems. It is very recent, only noticed it 3 days ago but today is first day it feels swollen

Hi dear ,

As per your query you have swollen hard area or lump behind ear . The symptoms you mention in query can occur due to two possibilities .

- Sebaceous cyst , This type of cyst develops around the sebaceous gland, which is responsible for producing oil that lubricates your skin and hair.

- Lymphadenopathy , Sometime, your lymph nodes will swell. In many cases, the swelling is the result of an infection.

I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis to rul out conditions like lipoma and acne Vulgaris . Doctor may order blood test to check infection . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics course in case of lymphanenopathy and may recommend surgical removal of sebaceous gland . For now drink pelnty of water and give warm compresses to swollen area .
