Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi , I have a couple conditions . I have a history of psoriasis ( about 18 years first appearing on scalp at 14) it developed into psoriatic arthritus a couple years ago . I started out treating my flare ups with topicals and tanning (uv light helps) then worsened and spread over the years and began myself on biologics- Humira. I ve been in Humira off and on-( I would take breaks for 2 months or so when I was in remission) I ve been on it about 8 years. About 3 years ago when I was in remission and on a few month break from Humira ... I experienced excruciating pain and joint swelling on both hands and feet- so bad it was crippling and had to wear supportive braces or wraps around my feet to be able to walk. I got back on Humira after a series of mandatory tests a couple months later .. meanwhile I was walking on swollen feet ( it would be worse some days then others depending on the weather the cold and rain) this first happened in October . Sorry this is so long .. just want you to understand my story .. on Humira again and been on it since 3 years ago when diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. My question is ... I still experience joint pain and tenderness from time to time while on medicine, no swelling but I m afraid I caused permanent damage to joints. Should I see a rheumatologist? Should I cat a cat scan so the doctor can look at my joints ? I m also an esthetician and use repetitive movements with my hands and wrists and I know that doesn t help ... thank you for listening .. if someone is still there ... lol... hope you can help. Thanks - just saw I have to pay to get an answer ?! What a waste of time .. could have told me sooner ! No thanks..
I agree that psoriatic arthritis can cause a lot of pain. Humira does help but if you really want a second opinion then I would advise you to seek help of a rheumatologist as they can help taper the drug and add a new drug. Also, check for joint dysfunction.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
