What Does The Abdominopelvic Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

Good day. I did a myomectomy in June of 2015 and removed six large fibroids, one of which was pressing on my right kidney. I did a follow up abdomino-pelvic ultrasound on November 16th of the same year. In a nutshell, the result reveals that my uterus is anteverted, non-gravid and bulky measuring 9.4x5.1x7.0 cm; both ovaries are bulky with no cyst or mass identifies (right vol 22 mls, left vol 15.4 mls); no adnexal mass, fluid, collection or cyst is seen; a 1.7 cm intramural anterior wall fibroid is present. Other than the small uterine fibroid and bulky ovaries, everything else is normal. My questions are: what do they mean by bulky ovaries? What could be the cause? And what do you think is the next step after I follow up with the doctor? It s now July of 2016 and I am about to set a well overdue appointment to see the OB/Gyno at my local hospital. Thank you and best regards.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The bulky or large ovaries can be due to many causes mostly benign like polycystic ovaries or due to fat deposition, lymph collection etc however, CA 125 may be done to rule out any malignant condition underlying. If painless torsion etc is less likely. If compression symptoms like before are present, gynecologist review will be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
