What Does The Appearance Of Uterine Fibroid In Ultrasound Report Specify?

Hi
I have just had an ultrasound and the comments say:-
Heterogenous myometrium with ecogenic area 2.7cm in the posterior wall (? atypical appearance of uterine fibroid, ?other). Follow up ultrasound in 6 weeks recommended.
What does all of this mean?

Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
The ultrasound abdomen report what you have posted shows appearance of mass of 2.7 cm in the uterine muscles. At this stage, it is not able to conclude weather it could be a growth in uterine muscles called 'fibroid'. Hence, it has been suggested to get a repeat scan done after 6 weeks, so that if it has increased in size, then appropriate diagnosis could be possible.
Only after that, it could be suggested that what measures to be taken next.
Until then, do not worry. Just hope for the best.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
