I had a blood test and my neurologist found high levels of IgM in my blood. She thought it might be Lyme and referred me to an infectious disease doctor. He ruled out Lyme but noticed that my sed rate is at 40. My neurologist referred me to a hematologist and I have an appt. this upcoming Monday. I am a ball of nerves and extremely scared I have been online reading and am petrified it could be blood cancer. What could it be?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Raised levels of Ig M and high ESR do not necessarily suggest blood cancer. Ig M levels increase in case recent infection mainly viral infection. Ig M is also elevated in a cancer of plasma cells called multiple myeloma. ESR is raised in many inflammatory conditions and cancers also. Investigations need to be done to rule out infections. After ruling out infections, multiple myeloma needs to be ruled out. X-ray of the spine, serum electrophoresis and urine electrophoresis are needed to rule out multiple myeloma.
