Hi! Welcome to HCM! Triglycerides are fat present in blood that provide energy to the body. High triglyceride levels have been linked to a greater chance for heart disease. Normal is less than 1.7 millimoles per liter (mmol/L).At 2.9 mmol/L it is high.Sometimes high triglycerides are a sign of poorly controlled type 2 diabetes, low thyroid hormones or a side effect of medications. To lower them, you can bring about lifestyle changes such as diet and physical activity, triglycerides usually respond well to dietary and lifestyle changes so medications can be avoided for lowering them.Hope this helps!Take care!
Your doctor will usually check for high triglycerides as part of a cholesterol test (sometimes called a lipid panel or lipid profile). You'll have to fast for nine to 12 hours before blood can be drawn for an accurate triglyceride measurement.
