What Does The Echo Cardio Report Indicate?

Angiogram Vs Angioplasty What specific thing should I look for to which one is a better fit for me, I just need another opinion. My echo showed normal heart function, but your aortic valve narrowing has slightly progressed into the severe range . Thanks for you opinion. Margaret Oakey-Myers

Hi,

Angiography is a diagnostic test in which you inject a dye in blood and see for blocked arteries and blood vessels in heart or any other part of body as per the requirement. Angioplasty is a procedure (treatment) in which you insert a stent to keep the blood vessel open so as to allow blood to flow through the narrowed part of the vessel like you do in heart attack patients. Aortic valve narrowing can't be diagnosed by angiography and is diagnosed by echocardiography which you got done already.

Please note that angiography and angioplasty both are not related anyway to the investigation or treatment for aortic valve narrowing. The treatment of aortic valve narrowing can be done by balloon valvuloplasty in which a catheter is inserted into the valve area and is inflated which opens up the narrowing. A more definitive treatment is aortic valve replacement and is done if all other modalities fail to open up the valve or the valve is severely stenosed (narrowed).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
