What Does The Following CT Scan Of The Back Indicate?

My mom is 81, and recently had a CT scan due to a back issue. The doctor said that one of the things that the radiologist commented on was the fact that it looked as if her stomach may be moving into her esophagus. They have indicated she should have an upper GI test right away. She has no symptoms digestion-wise. She does not have heartburn, gas, bowel problems, vomiting, etc. Her GP was clear that this was not in any way conclusive. Is the concern what is referred to as a fixed hiatal hernia? And she is hesitant about doing a test like this in such a hurried manner. Any comments? Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what your mother had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, if it's asymptomatic there is no need to fix the issue as it can exist without any significant problem even in future. Strenuous activities should be avoided.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
