What Does The Following CT Scan Report Suggest?

Below are the findings of my CT scan. What does it mean? There is interval evolution of hemorrhagic contusions involving the bilateral inferior frontal lobes and right lateral frontal lobe. There is low attenuation within the right frontal lobe consistent with evolving encephalomalacia or edema. Unchanged hyperdensity is present at the foramen of Monroe, consistent with choroid plexus calcivication or small colloid cyst. There is no hydrocephalus. Ventricles are incrementally enlarged upon comparison to the prior study. Thanks

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello,

It seems this is a repeat exam. It shows traumatic brain damage with bleeding areas in the frontal lobes on both sides, more diffuse on the right. The natural evolution of such lesions is that after some initial swelling the blood is gradually absorbed, the irreversibly damaged areas are cleared away leaving empty cavities (encephalomalacia). So that process is gradually taking place. Frontal lobe damage may leave some long term impairment, usually in the form of changes in behavior and at times seizures. Since the damage is bilateral (might have been useful to have the first report to understand better how extensive the damage was) I am afraid chances of such long term impairment remaining are high.

There are no other significant findings, there is calcification or a colloid cyst which is unchanged, a common finding which doesn't cause any symptoms or needs any treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olsi Taka,
Neurologist
