Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my brother, aged 35, has suffered a stroke yesterday. he is having partial paralysis on right side of body. MRI shows a clot in Medulla. doctors have started blood thinning medicines an he will be kept under observation for 3 more day. Mt question is What are the risks? will his condition improve with the current line of treatment? can the clot be cured by surgery or not? Is the damage caused to his right side of body reversible? in how much time? thanks a lot
Sorry to hear about his disease. Strokes are common, though uncommon in young age like. Him. In such cases we search for any abnormalities of blood clotting.
People with stroke, most of the times improve with physiotherapy. The improvement may take time. It's obvious with in a week, but complete improvement may takes up to months. Many times complete recovery may not be possible if stroke is a larger one. Physiotherapy has got the best role.
Mostly there is no role for surgery. These patients are at risk of future strokes so need to be on blood thinning medicines forever. High Bp, old age, cholesterol, smoking, obesity, family history are common risks.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
