What Does The Following MRI Report Indicate?

A co worker hurt her back and had an MRI done and was told her disc desiccation with mild narrowing at L4 L5 and L5-S1. Adjacent discogenic marrow signal changes are present. Conus medullaris terminates at t12-L1 and is normal in size, contours and signal intensity. Disc Bulge with superimposed central extrusion causing mild central stenosis. Ap diameter of the thecal sac is 9.5mm. There s mild right subarticular zone narrowing w/o nerve root impingement. no significan neural foraminal stenosis. Can you explain Impression: Changes of degenerative disc dz from L3-S1 with disc bulging and disc extrusions as described. There is mild central stenosis at l3-4 with mild rt subarticular zone narrowing but no nerve root impingement. No significant central stenosis or subarticular zone narrowing elsewhere. Mild neural foraminal stenosis at L4-L5 bilaterally and L5-S1 on left. Can you please explain a little better? What kind of treatment would help?

Hi,

Between the bones of the back (vertebra), there is are intervertebral discs. These discs have different functions. The report states that there is degeneration (break down of these discs) as well as bulging (protrusion) of the discs as they lay between the vertebra.

There is central stenosis (narrowing) at one point (narrowing of a central area of the bone which may then affect the nerves passing through) and also narrowing at another area which may also have an effect on the nerves there.

Most of these changes are chronic, meaning that they would have been going on for a long time but the fall may have aggravated it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
