What Does The Following MRI Report Suggest?

I am trying to decipher this in layman terms: L5-S1 level shows a 3 mm retrolisthesis of L5 on S1 with a broad based subligamentous disk extrusion that measures 10 x 3 mm in the craniocaudal and AP dimensions respectively. There is effacement of the descending S1 nerve roots in the ventral thecal sac. Mild facet hypertrophy is identified. Mild foraminal narrowing is noted. 2. L4-5 level shows a circumferential disk bulge with a broad based subligamentous disk extrusion that measures 6 x 7 x 3 mm in the craniocaudal, transverse and AP dimensions respectively. There is effacement of the descending L5 nerve roots in the ventral thecal sac. Mild facet hypertrophy is identified. Mild foraminal narrowing is noted at this level

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The bones in the back are called the vertebra. In the lower back there are 5 vertebra called lumbar vertebra ( L1 to L5).
After L5 is the sacrum (s).
There is a disc between each vertebra called the intervertebral disc.

The vertebra come into slight contact in different areas including an areas including areas called the FACET joints.

In between the vertebra and between L5 to S1, there are nerves exiting the spinal cord.

REPORT: (1) L5 - S1 retrolisthesis and disc extrusion- the vertebra has moved backwards from its normal position and the disc that lies between is protruding

(2)effacement of nerves- it is compressed .

(3)mild facet hypertrophy- enlargement of bones of the facet joint noted with narrowing of the foraminal space which may affect any nerves passing in this area

(4)Also a bulge or protrusion of the disc between L4 and L5 and the size of the protruding disc is given

(5)Nerves coming out near L5 vertebra are also compressed and there is enlargement or changes to the facet joint here as well
Narrowing of the foramin space which again would affect any nerves travelling along here

I hope this helps
