What Does The Following Pap Smear Test Result Indicate?

I had an abnormal pap with precancerous cells in my cervix and was supposed to go back last November. I just got another pap and the results say negative for intraepithelial lesion and malignancy. Predominance of coccobacilli consistent with shift in vaginal flora is present. What does this mean? It also says endocervical and / or squamous metaplastic cells (endocervical component) are present. And under specimen adequacy it says satisfactory for evaluation.

hi mam,its very good that you turned up for a review pap smear.the report says no pre cancerous or cancerous cells.regarding predominance of coccobacilli, such a picture usually occurs in bacterial vaginosis.it is a very common vaginal infection, that can be treated with antibiotics.that endocervical cells, let me explain you in detail.cervix consists of ectocervix lined by non keratinised, squamous epithelium epithelium and endocervix lined by columnar epithelium.due to excess estrogen and also in some bacterial infections, the squamous epithelium can migrate proximally into endocervix.these are metaplastic cells.specimen is adequate to give a report.i know it is difficult to understand but i can conclude one thing that there are no pre cancerous or cancerous lesions.bacterial vaginosis may be present that can easily be treated.hope your doubts are clarified.if you need anything else from my side,i'm always ready to assist.thank you.take care.bye.
