Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am concerned about an xray result. I had to have a ct scan to determine more. the xray report said, There are some ill-defined patchy, mixed air space and interstitial opacities seen in the left perihilar region, notably adjoing the left upper lobe pulmonary artery. No focal consolidation is seen. The remaining lungs are clear, as are the pleural spaces. No bony abnormality is seen. What does this mean. I have had whooping cough just recently, would this have anything to do with it.
The chest x-ray findings are suggestive of interstitial pneumonia apparently caused by whooping cough. It can also be caused by certain other bacterial infection like mycoplasms or viral infection.
You need to consult a chest physician for further evaluation and certain lab tests such as CBC, ESR, sputum for culture and sensitivity and AFB and he will prescribe a course of appropriate antibiotics based on the report of the lab tests done.
Hope these answer your query.
