Hello,

To confirm the diagnosis of asthma pulmonary function test is a better choice. It is a non invasive test that requires your child to blow a tube, and the test will clearly show over all lung function.

The chest x-ray details do suggest some inflammatory lung process, however looking at an x-ray film will give better details.

The comment on heart is magnified cardiac silhouette; that may be caused by enlargement of heart, collection of fluid in lungs, pad of fat surrounding heart, or even if x-ray is taken from AP view.

As your son is already on antibiotics, and the cough still persist; I would suggest you to get a pulmonary function test done.

Moreover, asthma management requires inhalation of steroids, and antibiotics are only required for signs of bacterial infection like fever, or pneumonia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
